To be scheduled for an interview, you must submit all of the requirements listed below: Doctor's Certificate - You must obtain a doctor's note stating that "you are physically able to work in the construction field". This note must be signed by the attending physician and state the date you were examined. The date must be within the last six months. Any Doctor's note that does not have the above information will NOT be accepted.Proof of Age - This can be provided on your birth certificate, selective service card, or your school transcript. A driver's license or social security card is not acceptable as proof of age.Transcript of Last Grade - You must obtain a copy of your school transcript from the last grade you completed. Copies of your high school diploma and/or GED are not acceptable!Proof of Work Experience - You must obtain a letter from a current or previous employer stating the length of employment and the duties you performed. (Experience need not be in selected trade, but it is recommended)Three Letters of Personal Reference - You must obtain 3 letters of personal character reference from acquaintances other than family members or relatives. The letters should indicate the length of time known, and the reasons why they feel you are qualified for acceptance into the program. The letters should also have an address and telephone number for the office to verify the reference.Veterans Discharge (DD214) - If Applicable - You must supply a copy of your discharge papers if you served in the military.Proof of Vocational Training in the Selected Trade - If Applicable - You must submit a transcript from wherever you received your training if you are attempting to get credit for prior vocational training. In order to receive credit, your prior training must be related to the trade in which you are applying. Certificates from an adult education course can be included.Proof of Prior Construction Work Experience - If Applicable - You must submit a letter from your previous employer(s) stating the length of employment and the duties you performed.After you complete your file by submitting all of the applicable requirements listed above, you will be scheduled for an appointment to our office for an interview. You will receive notification in the mail of your appointment date and time. Please contact the office immediately if you have an address change so that you will promptly receive all information on the program. The Math Test All applicants must take a basic math test before beginning classes. Those applicants who do not pass will be required to take a 10-week remedial math course and will be charged an additional fee. The Job-Pool Upon acceptance, the following procedure is followed if you are unemployed: The Job Pool List- Your name is placed on a job pool list for possible employment according to your selected trade. Please note that you are responsible for your own transportation to and from all job sites!Apprenticeship Ranking - Names are ranked according to the total number of points accumulated from the application process. The applicant with the greatest number of points is ranked first.Employer Requests - When a contractor requests an apprentice from the ABC Office, the first applicant on the particular trade pool list is notified by phone and/or mail and referred to the contractor. Only one apprentice is referred for each job available. The applicant must accept the job. If the applicant refuses to accept employment, his or her name will be removed from the Job Pool List.Hiring Procedures - When you accept a position, you must notify the ABC Office immediately. Arrangements must be made with your new employer to come to the ABC Office to sign your Apprenticeship Agreement Registration Papers. If you delay this procedure, you will delay processing of your on-the-the-job training (OJT) hours when you begin working.Credit for Prior Work Experience Up to two (2) years of on-the-job training experience may be credited to an applicant prior to signing the Apprenticeship Registration Papers. You must follow these steps in order to receive credit: We must receive a written recommendation from your employer indicating the number of hours of experience to be credited. This must be broken down by duties performed and the number of hours to be credited to each duty.The recommendation must be approved by the Education & Committee after you demonstrate competency for the level of credit recommended.Credit for Prior Vocational Training Up to two (2) years of related instruction may be credited to an apprentice. Credit for prior Vocational Training is not a substitute for the "proof of work experience" requirement. You must follow these steps in order to receive credit: We must receive written recommendation by your employer requesting that you take a competence "skip" test for one or two years of related classroom instruction. There is also a fee that must be paid before the test can be administered. Tests are administered at the ABC Office by appointment only. All Skip Test requests must be received by the ABC Office prior to the start of the Apprentice's first year of classroom instruction. All skip tests will be administered no later than three weeks prior to the start of apprenticeship classes.You must earn a passing grade on the "skip" test. You must pass the 1st year test before the second year test will be administered.The credit must be approved by the Education & Training Committee after you demonstrate competency for the level of credit recommended.For Apprentices Taking the Skip Test for Any Trade You will be allowed three (3) hours to complete the test. A qualified instructor must grade each test, therefore please allow for processing time. We will notify you as soon as we receive the results. If you do not pass the test, you must complete the full apprenticeship program. If you pass the test, there will be an additional fee for the first year books, and you will be admitted to the second. year.
